Call Of Duty 7 "Black Ops" - Page 2 Blackops-special-edition

Due out this November, the special edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops will include a tiny remote control “video surveillance vehicle” inspired by the game’s multiplayer.

The remote control vehicle, inspired by the RC-XD found in the game’s multiplayer, has a range of about 200 feet and a fully-functioning remote camera that transmits both color video and audio. The car will only come with the yet-to-be-officially-priced Prestige Edition of the game, which also comes with all of the extras included with the Hardened Edition.

The Hardened Edition includes a custom Black Ops limited edition medal, exclusive Black Ops Avatar outfit (for either Live or Home), as well as four playable cooperative maps.

Both editions will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 when the game ships on Nov. 9. No official price has been announced for either edition, but GameStop lists the Prestige Edition for $150 and the Hardened Edition for $80.

No word on who is manufacturing the vehicle, but since the night vision rig looked an awful lot like it was made by toy maker EyeClops, and toy maker Spy Gear also makes a video camera-sporting truck, I suspect it could be a toy company.

    Customization
Customization will also play a huge part in the new Call of Duty. David Vonderhaar, lead multiplayer designer at Treyarch, told the magazine: “You can create a tag and etch it onto your weapons, so they’re stamped as yours. The option is also there to alter your sights and clip on attachtments such as flame-throwers.”

These attachments, sights and tags can be bought with in-game cash and will help to make your character ‘unique’. However, it seems likely that some elements of the traditional rank system from previous Call of Duty games will remain, given that players in the Multiplayer Teaser Trailer had ranks next to their names. It’s likely that we’ll find out more on this later tonight, at the Multiplayer Reveal Event.

    ‘Wager Match’
Another new addition is a Team Tactical gametype called ‘Wager Match’. When you choose to play Wager Match, you’ll be randomly placed in one of four modes: ‘One in the Chamber’, which sees players given one bullet to kill other players: miss, and they’re forced to use the knife, ‘Sharpshooter’, which sees players given a random weapon, ‘Sticks and Stones’, which involves the crossbow, ballistic knife and Tomahawk, and ‘Gun Game’ (formerly a mod for Call of Duty 4), which sees players vying to get kills with 20 different weapons: knife someone, and they move down a level.

Team Deathmatch, the popular and ever-present gametype which pits teams of 6 against each other, will return in Black Ops. However, points for headshots and other bonuses will apparently add to the team score, encouraging players to be as accurate as possible.

Combat Training is a mode with its own ranking completely separate from any multiplayer play. Treyarch says it found that 30 to 40 percent of single player gamers had never once tried multiplayer, and this mode is an attempt to "introduce the Call of Duty game to an entirely new set of players who we feel are missing out," said Vanderhaar. The mode has its origins in a dummy the team created named Larry, who originally just stood in the field and reported back on damage received to the programmers. But when even the devs wanted Larry to be a little more active, they eventually developed the mode into a full package.

Combat Training allows you to play either by yourself or with friends -- we'll give it a look later this evening and let you know what kind of challenge Black Ops' AI bots will offer.

Treyarch also plans to diverge from the series tradition of set unlocks by introducing a currency to the multiplayer game, called CP or "CoD points." Everything in the game has a set CP price (or XP level limit) attached to it, so if there's a specific killstreak or weapon you'd like to unlock, you can save up and buy it at the first chance instead of simply waiting for it to open up. Perks also have an effect on how you look in the game -- choosing Scavenger outfits your character with lots of pouches on your armor, while Ghost puts you into a gilly suit. Other players can see that customization as well, so opponents can tell with a glance what perks you've got equipped. Guns can be customized even further than before, and emblems can be created and attached to guns.

Additionally, gear has been narrowed down into three categories: lethal throwables (like frag grenades) will always be used with the right bumper; tactical throwables will appear on the left bumper; "equipment" consists of all the other gear Treyarch has thrown into the game, from the usual claymores and motion sensors to new gadgets like a camera spike. New weapons have been added into care packages as well -- Treyarch showed off a gigantic Gatling gun, a special RPG, a napalm strike, a remotely controlled bomb, an off-site mortar team and a movable SAM turret that targeted any aircraft in the area.

Currency, said Treyarch, is useless unless you can gamble with it, so Treyarch has created four new multiplayer modes that revolve around gambling CP, called Wager Matches. In these matches, only the top three players get paid at the end of the match, and everyone else loses their ante CP. "One in the Chamber" pits players against each other armed with just one pistol and one bullet -- killing someone else earns you an extra bullet, but missing leaves you with just a knife. "Sticks and Stones" gives everyone a tomahawk and a crossbow, and hitting an opponent with a tomahawk automatically bankrupts them. "Gun Game" has players progressing through the various gun tiers -- a kill moves you up to a stronger weapon, but dying drops you back down. Finally, "Sharp Shooter" gives everyone a series of random weapons, with everyone switching to the next randomly selected one after a certain point.

Treyarch has also implemented "Contracts," which players can buy with CP and then pay off when certain criteria are met in the game within a certain time limit. Promise to kill 50 players in a certain amount of matches, and achieving the goal will pay back more CP -- but failing will cost you what you paid in the first place.

Finally, the developer also created the ability to record and playback matches during development, so it added a video recording system into the game. Players can save, share and browse recorded videos -- the system doesn't look quite as in-depth as what Bungie's put together in the past, but we'll have to see it in action.

Look for our more in-depth multiplayer impressions soon.

so a brief round up about the treyach show last night

•CoD Points – currency system for ‘buying unlocks’, abbreviated to CP
•‘Wager Match’ – new game mode featuring 4 different gametypes on which you gamble credits (see video)
•‘Combat Training’ – prepare for online multiplayer by playing against bots, with or without friends. You have a different rank to your online rank.
•Contracts – similar to challenges, take them on to receive XP and CP
•Care package – contents can include a mini-gun, SAM turret, and more
•Weapon customization, and then some – customize everything about your gun, including sights and camos. Etch your own clantag and emblem into the gun.
•Emblem editor – huge range of possibilities

    Perks and Weapons
Tier 1 perks (outfit perks): Lightweight. Scavenger. Ghost. (invisible to SR-71 recon plane) Flak Jacket. Hardline.

Tier 2 perks: Hardened. Scout. Steady Aim. Sleight of Hand. Warlord. (equivalent to Bling)

Tier 3 perks: Marathon. Ninja. Second Chance. Hacker. Tactical Mask.

    Pro perks will return.

New weapons: Uzi, M1 Garand, M14, ASP pistol, Ithaca, Skorpion... and more!

Thermal scope seen in Wager Match video, along with Dual Wield.

    Wager Matches
    game modes

•One in the Chamber – Everyone starts with a pistol and one bullet. Damage is low, so players are one-hit kills. You have three lives, and if you kill another player you’ll earn a bullet from them. If you miss, you’ll have to resort to knifing!
•Gun Game – Start with a pistol and earn a better weapon every time you kill someone. If you’re knifed, you’ll drop back to the last weapon you had.
•Sticks & Stones – Players have crossbows, ballistic knives and tomahawks. Tomahawks earn less points.
•Sharpshooter – All players start with the same random weapon, which cycles after 2-5 minutes

    CP (CoD Points)

Players will earn CP in multiplayer matches, and can use them to buy weapons and weapon customizations. Players who like to gamble will also be able to bet their CP in Wager Matches. CP can also be earned by completing “contracts”. Contracts are in-game challenges, awarding the player with CP when they perform certain tasks.

    Combat Training

will feature “bots”, computer controlled multiplayer opponents. The boys will be featured in the new “Combat Training” mode. The mode can be played alone or with friends, and it features a completely separate ranking system, separate from online multiplayer. The mode will allow players to practice their skills without the pressure of playing with others online.

    Tier One Perks

Running with their theme of character customization, Treyarch revealed that a players tier one perk will affect the players appearance in the game. This will allow you to choose how your character looks to the other players for the first time in a Call of Duty game. For example, if one has the first tier perk “Ghost”, then they will appear in game wearing a ghillie suit.

    Weapon Customization

players will have almost complete control over the look of their weapons. All sorts of stickers can be positioned on the gun as you see fit, clan tags can be engraved in the weapon, and the gins sights (specifically red dot) can be altered and tweaked in a number of different ways. Of course, most (if not all) of these features will cost you some of your CP!

Call of Duty: Black Ops PC Multiplayer FAQ

    Full feature support: Confirmed
Ranked Servers: earn XP and currency. Wager Servers: gamble your currency. Customizable Unranked Servers. Combat Training against practice dummies. Theater. Create-a-Class “2.0.” Contracts. Emblem editor. Everything the consoles get. Implemented in a way that makes sense for PC (*cough* no lobbies *cough*).

    PC Features: Confirmed
Dedicated Servers. New Server Browser. Dev console. /record. Customizable game modes, perks, killstreaks, classes, and higher player counts on unranked servers. Map rotation. RCon. Kick & Ban. MOTD. In-game custom Server Banners. And more.

    Mod Tools: Confirmed
We will release mod tools sometime post-launch. We need to finish the game first. Then we will make sure any urgent issues are handled. Then we will begin work on tools. The extent of the mod tools package will not be known until this time.

    Global Persistent Stats, Profiles: Confirmed
Your profile data is stored on servers for you and is accessible from anywhere on the internet. Stats, XP, COD Points, configs, etc.

    Leaderboards: Confirmed
Yes, leaderboards – globally persistent leaderboards (i.e. NOT per-server based).

    Steam Exclusive: Confirmed
Millions of Call of Duty fans are already on Steam. Their Friends are on Steam. Steam will provide the ease of auto-updating instead of manual patching. Auto-updating will also help keep the community playing together on the latest version. The Steam cloud will make your profile and configs available to you on any computer.

    VAC: Confirmed
We are serious about protecting the integrity of this game from hackers and cheaters who would otherwise ruin the fun for the honest players. Used in conjunction with our own anti-exploit measures, Theater reviews, trusted servers, and supplemented by server admins with kick and ban powers we believe that Valve Anti-Cheat will be an effective solution for Call of Duty: Black Ops PC. We are committed to working closely and diligently with Valve to deal with new threats as they appear.

    No “Public Server Files”: Confirmed
Many of these game features are predicated on having a trusted host or server. Otherwise these features would be wide-open to easy exploits and rampant cheating. Also, anti-cheat solutions can be significantly more effective on games that rely on trusted servers. We chose against “public server files” in favor of providing full feature support and protecting the integrity of this title. This doesn’t mean you won’t have customization or admin capabilities with your servers – because you will. This simply means we’ve partnered with an exclusive server provider.

    GameServers.com Exclusive: Confirmed
We have partnered with GameServers.com as the exclusive provider of dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Every dedicated server for this title will be running on top quality hardware and infrastructure with excellent bandwidth. There will be a ton of official servers at launch for everyone to play on for free. If you want to run your own server you will be able to rent one at a great price (which will never go higher than $0.99/slot). They are actively adding new server locations and staffing up to meet global demand. If you don’t see your location you can suggest it here: http://www.gameservers.com/blackops/

    Max Players: Not Confirmed
We have not yet finalized the maximum number of players in ranked or unranked servers. More playtesting is required to determine how high these numbers can go. This happens as late as possible in the project otherwise the game is likely to change in ways that could invalidate the results.

    Minimum System Requirements: Not Confirmed
The game is still in development, and the PC team is hard at work making further optimizations. We will announce the min specs in the near future.

Call of Duty: Black Ops’ customization system goes much deeper than any Call of Duty game before it. It’s a feature that a lot of the community wanted expanded, and Treyarch have obliged. In the video below Donell Tucker and Chris Monfetter from G4TV run you through Black Ops’ Customization system – the new killstreak rewards, the new RC-XD toy, the new emblem creation tool, and the traditional perks in Call of Duty: Black Ops

They finally went ahead and added a Theater Mode to Call of Duty! That means no need to have expensive capture cards and video editing software to share your ‘best bits’ with the world. Good times. But will the new feature really be usable?

Here’s a quick Black Ops Theater Mode preview video from GamesRadar that should make things a little more clearer until Treyarch release a Theater Mode trailer.

Treyarch are taking all possible steps to eliminate Tac Insert boosting from the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops – including disabling Tactical Insertion in Free-For-All game modes.

Treyarch’s Design Director, David Vonderhaar, detailed exactly how the team are planning on combating people exploiting the Tactical Insertion

    Hello,

We love Tac Insert. It does a few things for the game strategy. A well organized team of Tac Insert user can roll the competition in Demo. It’s grand, really, and how it should be. Counter by organizing your own team of Tac Insert users and roll with Hacker.

It also solves a problem. A lot of you are super convinced you can make a better spawn system than we can. That’s cool. So, here you go. Here is Tac Insert. Pick your own spawn point and stop yelling at me.

Trying to use Tac Insert but are getting Tac Insert spawned camped? Well, you probably deserve that but you can now cancel your own Tac Insert in the Killcam. That’s new to Black Ops.

The main reason I am not as worried about Tac Insert as you? We can disable it. And, I just did for Free-For-All (hardcore and core) variants. It will still work in Private Matches in Free for All, but then you don’t get XP in Private Matches so it can’t be used for boosting.

The game has a reporting system. Report boosters and let’s make examples of them. Once you lay the ban hammer on enough bad people word will get around that we don’t take too kindly to this sort of thing.

There is still a little confusion around Call of Duty: Black Ops’ COD Points, and the difference between unlocking and purchasing loadout options. How will it all fit in together? Here is a explanation direct from Treyarch.

    COD Points
You still unlock items, abilities, and customization options through leveling up. You’re still gaining experience, but you’re also earning COD Points at the same time. Let’s use specific examples to see how this works. For perks, when you reach level 4, all perks become available for purchase. When you unlock Killstreaks at level 10, they all become available for purchase. And when you unlock great new features such as Custom Reticles, they become available for purchase for all guns. This lets you purchase what you want, when you want it. Just make sure you have the money.

Can’t wait to throw on an ACOG Sight on that new Commando assault rifle you just purchased? No interest in the Red Dot Sight? Skip right over it. No need to grind for kills. Save up your money and purchase the ACOG Sight instead. Can’t wait to demolish your enemies with the RC Car killstreak? Make it your first purchase after unlocking killstreaks.

This is just a sample of the options you can explore and purchase, but we’re not giving away all of our secrets just yet.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Dynamic Contracts

Call of Duty: Black Ops’ multiplayer uses a new feature, in addition to the usual challenges, called Contracts. Contracts are bought by the player with CoD Points, which will then direct them to complete whichever objective is required within a certain amount of time. Completion of a contract will reward a higher CoD point payout than was originally paid for the contract itself.

The mercenary Contract “SPAS Cruelty”, for example, is bought for 50 COD Points and requires you to get 25 kills with the SPAS in 40-minutes of time alive in-game. The reward for completing this particular Contract is 250 COD Points. A neat new feature.

The best thing about Black Ops’ Contracts, though, is that fact they will be dynamic. Treyarch will make different Contacts available each week to keep the selection fresh. So, if you complete all the Contracts in the list it’s not a problem, there will be some new ones to take on within 7-days.

So you better get those Contracts done because they will soon disappear. Then who knows when the ones you didn’t complete will return, giving you another chance!

    Training Mode Explained

Train. Train. Train. If you want to be the best, you’ve got to know your stuff – your maps, your equipment, and your abilities. Hesitate and you’re done for.

Welcome to the new Combat Training mode, soldiers. Strengthen your skills in Free-For-All or Team Deathmatch on any multiplayer map against a full set of Practice Dummies. Practice alone or train with other players online. The experience and currency you earn in Combat Training is saved separately from your online multiplayer soldier, but everything you unlock remains within the mode.

Combat Training is a great resource for all player levels.

New players and those typically interested only in single player can jump in to learn the basics of the multiplayer experience and get a feel for different loadouts. Familiarize yourself with the maps and evolve your fighting strategies before joining competitive play.

Veterans can use Combat Training to their advantage, as well. Work out new strategies and fine tune loadouts without affecting your kills/death ratio. Nail down formations and team chemistry with your clan, and choose the maps you need to work on to get a better sense of spawn points and player flow.
